13 Television Shows That Sound Like Emo/Pop-Punk Band Names

Share
- Last week we hipped you to the sound of young band The Wonder Years, who take their name from the beloved 1980s TV dramedy that followed Kevin Arnold (played by Fred Savage) through the ups and downs of teenage life in 1960's America. And then we realized. Dude. There are SO many TV show titles just waiting to be appropriated by a savvy emo band in need! Here are a few of our favorite TV show titles that SO need to be the name of an emo, screamo, or pop-punk band. Bands, thanks us later in your liner notes. 1.) St. Elsewhere: It's wistful! Plus, hospitals are so emo. Maybe they could play on stage in lab coats? 2.) Party of Five: The way Neve Campbell used to flip her hair? So emo! Matthew Fox's Charlie? Always on the verge of crying. Breathy ballads await! 3.) 21 Jump Street: No-brainer. Has a youthful exuberance, and these dressed cool and were kinda straight-edge. Plus: Johnny Depp references are always wins. 4.) Brand New Life: Might be biting the band Brand New a bit. Also? Shawnee Smith! 5.) Are You Afraid Of The Dark?: Has all the hallmarks of an emo band name. It's long, it's ambiguous, it hearkens back to your deep-seated childhood fears, and it's kind of innocent. You're welcome, future emo band. 6.) In The Heat Of The Night: This '80s cop show even had totally emo-sounding episode titles. "Murder Most Ancient." "A Loss Of Innocence." Perfect for a screamo band. 7.) Hill Street Blues: Takes the cop show's title and gives it a melancholy, sitting-in-my-bedroom-in-the-Midwest vibe. 8.) Kate & Allie: Might be good for a Tegan & Sara-esque duo, provided their names are Kate and Allie. 9.) 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Daughter: Has just the right kind of youthful snottiness that goes well with youthful and snotty pop-punk. 10.) Perfect Strangers: The winking comedy, the subtle sadness, the reference to Balki Bartokomous! 11.) The War At Home: Everyone knows that home is where the heart gets broken. Plus there's "home" as a metaphor for your soul. Amazing right? This short-lived dramedy can live on as the name of some lucky band. 12.) Property Virgins: Sure, this is really a show about first-time homebuyers, but it also suggests young people on the verge of adulthood, and therefore it's SUCH an excellent emo name! 13.) BONUS: My So-Called Life: Not only is this, like, the perfect emo band name, it's actually already in use! Congrats to England's My So-Called Life for being on the ball! ...
