- Just in time for last month’s Martin Luther King Day, Yasiin Bey (the MC formerly known as Mos Def) released the first track in his Top 40 Underdog series, the socioeconomically-minded “Niggas In Poorest”. Now, on the 47th anniversary of Malcom X’s assassination, Bey has unveiled the track’s self-directed music video. The crux of the clip focuses on Bey laying the track down, either with his back turned to the camera in a studio or standing defiantly in front of a mural. Interspersed between the performance shots are random clips, including footage from Saddam Hussein’s trial, Bernie Madoff being arrested, a speech from the aforementioned Malcolm X, and, interestingly enough, a scene from Pootie Tang.
