Watch: Matthew Dear - Her Fantasy
Matthew Dear has offered an early taste of what to expect from his upcoming album ‘Beams’, in the form of the song ‘Her Fantasy’. The video for the track features weird circus performers amongst other surreal characters such as women with bird cages on their head, complimenting the artists other worldly electronic sounds and robotic vocal style. "I'm about 4 to 5 different people at any given time," Matthew Dear says. "By allowing all of those different personalities to exist…the most pure and direct self can come through in the music. [The songs] may still be cryptic, and full of contradictions, but in my opinion that is pure unadulterated thought in musical form. They are direct lines to the center." Dear, whose highlights include working with producers Van Rivers & The Subliminal Kid and The Drums’ frontman Jonathan Pierce, is also producer on the new record. Recorded in Matthew Dear's home studio and mixed at Nicolas Vernhes' Rare Book Room studios in Brooklyn, ‘Beams’ is to evoke the same dreamlike state which the latest single does. Dancefloor-ready tempos, major keys and sun-warmed synths will all be apart of the new album’s ethos. ‘Beams’ is set to be released August 27th. Words by Jamie Carson
