- For a majority of the time that Nielson Soundscan has tracking vinyl sales, the Beatles’ Abbey Road reigned supreme, sitting on top of the chart since 2008. However, it was announced this week that Jack White‘s debut solo LPBunderbuss (our second favorite album of 2012) has surpassed the Beatles’ classic album with 33,000 copies sold since April 2012, making it the highest selling vinyl of the year that was supposed to bring the end of days, as predicted by the Mayans. We said that Blunderbuss was “a tri-colored middleground amidst the bands with which we associate him – namely the White Stripes, the Dead Weather and The Raconteurs – and transcends them all with a razor-sharp singular vision and staggering versatility that defies any of his group designs,” awarded it a well-deserved five stars, and later declared Jack’s Tulsa performance to be one of the best of 2012. White is also up for three Grammy awards: Album of the Year, Best Rock Song, and Best Rock Album. The winners will be announced at the 55th annual ceremony on February 10th and can be viewed on CBS.
