Patti Smith announces new album and single

Patti Smith is back. The new record from the rock female icon will be titled "Banga" and will hit the stores on June 5. The first excerpt from the album is titled "April Fool" and it's already available.

"Banga"
arrives five years from "Twelve" (a collection of cover) and eight years from "Trampin'". As reported by Rolling Stone, the album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York, with Tony Shanahan, Jay Dee Daugherty and Lenny Kaye.

Tom Verlaine
and the sons of the singer, Jackson and Jesse Paris, will be among the special guests. The album also features a song dedicated to Amy Winehouse ("This Is the Girl"), and a song written for the birthday of Johnny Depp ("Nine").

Patti Smith, real name Patricia Lee Smith, was born in Chicago in 1946. Her mother, Beverly, was a waitress, and her father, Grant, worked at the Honeywell plant. She spent her entire childhood in Deptford Township, New Jersey.
