R.I.P. Adam Yauch, dead at 47

Beastie Boys MC, Adam Yauch - aka MCA - passed away due to cancer on Friday May, 4. He was 47.

Yauch was not only a member of one of the most important hip-hop bands of all  time; he also was a director. Yauch directed Beastie Boys videos (under the pseudonym Nathaniel Hornblower) and the 2008 basketball documentary "Gunnin' for #1 Spot".
He also ran a film production and distribution company, Oscilloscope Pictures, that shepherded many films, including "Wendy and Lucy", "We Need to Talk About Kevin" and the forthcoming LCD Soundsystem documentary "Shut Up and Play the Hits".

Yauch was diagnosed cancer in 2009. He had a cancerous tumor in his left parotid gland and began undergoing radiation therapy. Shortly after, the Beastie Boys cancelled their tour and delayed the release of their next studio album.
Throughout his treatment, Yauch remained optimistic, frequently issuing health updates to his fans. However, he remained out of the public spotlight during last spring’s release of "Hot Sauce Committee, Pt 2" and last month, he skipped the group’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the ceremony, Mike D and Ad Rock paid tribute to him in his absence.
