Bruce Springsteen to release new single “High hopes” next week?

A single anticipating Bruce Springsteen's new album could be released as early as next week. Rumours about a sequel to 2012’s “Wrecking ball” have been floating and reported in the past weeks. But now it looks like the real thing: nordic website Wimp lists a “new” song by the Boss, due for a november 19 or november 25 release, providing a cover image for the single too.

“High hopes” might be Springsteen’s new single, but it’s not a new song. Originally written and recorded by The Havalinas in 1990, it was already covered and released by Springsteen in 1996, as soundtrack to “Blood brothers”, the rockumentary chronicling his reunion with the E Street Band after a hiatus. The song was included in an EP bundled with the VHS release of the movie. Now it seems Springsteen has re-recorded the song.

Springsteen dusted off the song last march in Australia, when it was first played live. At the time Rockol.com interviewed Springsteen’s manager Jon Landau in, and he spoke about the song: “In Australia he started to do a song called 'High hopes' that he didn’t write himself. It came to his mind, he worked it up in a reharsal and suddenly it became... boom! I’m sure he’ll be doing it in Europe as well”. The song didn’t eventually get played in Europe, but it may be one of the tracks The Boss and the band worked on in the studio in the sessions that took place during that same Australian tour. Hear below a live version of the song, Springsteen’s 1996 version and the original recording by Havalinas.
