Pono's Kickstarter campaign raises over $6 Million

The Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to finance Neil Young's Pono, eneded on April 15... and it was a huge success.
The goal of collecting $800,000 was literally smashed, since the campaign closed at $6,225,354 - yes, more than $6 million, with 18,220 people backing the project.

After years of planning, Young announced Pono in March during the latest edition of South by Southwest, in Austin (TX). The Pono music player and service allows users to listen to music at a much higher quality than the typical digital technology. The device is not for sale yet, but it will cost $399, with 128 Mb of memory (expandable).

"The record companies", explained Young, "made some bad choices and did not realize how big this tech [MP3s] was going to be. And when that happened, there was no alternative to the cheap sound. . . We're going to be able to play records back just like the artists made them — with absolutely no magic sauce, no DRM, no encoding, decoding, none of the things that screw with the sound and make it an intellectual property".
