AC/DC: Malcolm Young takes a break due to illness, but the band goes on

After a whirlwind of rumours, the official statement from AC/DC came. The band announced that rhythm guitarist and co-founder Malcolm Young will be "taking a break" from the band, to take care of himself and rcover from an illness that lead singer Brian Johnson described earlier this week as "debilitating".

This is the full statement, shared via Facebook: "After forty years of life dedicated to AC/DC, guitarist and founding member Malcolm Young is taking a break from the band due to ill health. Malcolm would like to thank the group’s diehard legions of fans worldwide for their never-ending love and support. In light of this news, AC/DC asks that Malcolm and his family’s privacy be respected during this time. The band will continue to make music".

Malcolm Young has always been the secret weapon of the band, with his cutting edge guitar work, so his absence won't go unnoticed.
Singer Brian Jonhson, anyway, assured the fans AC/DC will soon be in a studio to try to write new music. He confirmed that the band will enter a Vancouver recording studio next month: "We're going to pick up some guitars, have a plonk, and see if anybody has got any tunes or ideas. If anything happens, we'll record it".
