Samsung rolls out VidZone on devices across five major European countries

Samsung today announced a partnership with VidZone that will see the ad-supported music video streaming service become available on a variety of the manufacturer’s devices in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.

Supported devices will include smartphones, tablets and Smart TVs and this initial launch will shortly be followed by a wider rollout to more territories in Europe.

The VidZone app will be available via Samsung Apps and on the Google Play Store, allowing users to watch its catalogue of over 65,000 videos by both major and independent labels.

VidZone has already been downloaded by 11 million users (as a PlayStation app) and also offers exclusive content like interviews, live concerts and music video premieres. The service has agreements in place with all three majors which enables it to have a more comprehensive catalogue than Vevo since the joint venture between Universal and Sony has never managed to get Warner Music on board.

VidZone so far has lived primarily on PS3 and PS4 consoles and it’s going to be very interesting to see the service branch out and become yet another music destination for consumers on a wider variety of devices.

As the app is slated to debut on the Google Play store as well it is not yet clear whether users will be required to have a Samsung device to download it or whether it will be open to all Android users in the specified territories.

The VP of Samsung Electronics Media Solutions Centre in Europe, Lee Epting, stated: "VidZone is leading the charge with a service that delivers one of the richest and most extensive music video catalogues – available instantly at the touch of a button. We are delighted that the service has been designed and optimised specifically for Samsung devices, marking the first time that VidZone’s service will be available on smartphones, tablets and Smart TVs.”
