This Is My Jam launches a Song Graph

This Is My Jam, a social music discovery startup that has built a solid fan base over the past two years, prefers to focus on quality rather than quantity.

Its users are encouraged to post the one song, or “jam”, that is captivating them in that particular moment. They can change their favourite song anytime, but are only allowed one pick.

This encourages social discovery as you are able to explore the songs that have been picked by your friends on a daily basis but also to listen to playlists generated through the picks made on the service (on the Spotify app).

Today This Is My Jam announced the launch of its Song Graph, a database of the 500k songs that were deemed by its users to be the best of all time.

The new database allows users to explore their friends’ jams history as well as their own. The company has built a song page for every track that was ever selected. This page bring together all the users that love that song and is a way to connect with people that have similar tastes.

This Is My Jam also found that there were discrepancies between what other streaming services deemed to be the “top tracks” for a given artist and their own results, so it created artist pages that simply highlight the best tracks by that artist based on the number of times they were selected.

The company with Song Graph wants to cut through the noise, making it easier for users to find tracks that have been deemed by someone to be worth listening to. Given the paralysis some experience when faced with the millions of tracks available on Spotify, This Is My Jam's new database could turn out to be a pretty valuable asset.
