Merlin appoints Jim Mahoney as the General Manager of its New York office

Global rights agency for independent labels Merlin has announced the official opening of its New York office today and the appointment of Jim Mahoney - former VP of the Association of Independent Music (A2IM) - as its General Manager.

Merlin is headquartered in Amsterdam and has an office in London, but the opening of an office in the world’s largest music market makes a lot of sense especially as its US members - the company revealed - account for around a third of its global business.

Mahoney has over 20 years of experience in the independent sector and is now tasked with maintaining and developing Merlin’s US membership, as well as handling day-to-day relationships with US digital services.

Merlin recently announced a groundbreaking partnership with Pandora and has many partnership with US-based digital services so having some boots on the ground makes a lot of sense.

Mahoney commented: “This is an exciting time to be joining Merlin, and the opening of our US office marks a real statement of intent. Having spent 20 years working for or in the service of US independent music labels, I have a close understanding of the passion and tireless work that they provide on behalf of their artists and the value that they deliver both to fans and digital services.” […]  “As a result, I believe that the services offered by Merlin will be greatly enhanced - giving our US members greater control over their digital business, and helping to grow the digital market overall.”
