Sam Smith, Ella Eyre shine among MOBO Awards winners

British soul singer Sam Smith was the star at the 2014 MOBO Awards, the event celebrating “Music of Black Origin” that has become an annual landmark in the UK music-industry calendar.

The Londoner came away from the ceremony, held at the SSE Arena, Wembley in London and broadcast on the ITV network, with the gongs for Best R&B/Soul Act, Best Song for the track Stay With Me, Best Album for In the Lonely Hour, and Best Male Act.

Other hitmakers honoured at the gala were Jessie J (Best Female Act), Krept & Konan (Best Hip Hop Act), MC Stormzy (Best Grime Act), and new in-demand singer-songwriter Ella Eyre (pictured) as Best Newcomer.
