Young Fathers awarded the 2014 Mercury Prize for 'Dead'

Young Fathers have been awarded this year’s Mercury Prize for their album "Dead" during an award ceremony taking place at the Roundhouse in London.

The band beat a pretty impressive competition which included the likes of Damon Albarn, Jungle, Bombay Bicycle Club, Royal Blood, Anna Calvi and Kate Tempest.

The Mercury Prize always generates a heated debate, and every year without fail there are those who talk about whether the prize has lost its relevance, so we’ll be sure to report on any controversy in the coming days.

In the meantime, the reaction to the news from industry insiders on Twitter appears to be overwhelmingly positive.
