Experience Paul McCartney in virtual reality in the comfort of your own home

Google Cardboard earlier this year caused a bit of a stir from the VR (Virtual Reality) community, the company had managed through software and a piece of cardboard, to create a pretty good VR Headset experience on a shoestring budget.

Since then, Cardboard has developed its fair share of fans and developers who are creating apps to be used with the headset. Jaunt VR is one of those developers and has just launched an app called Paul McCartney which contains the footage of just one song, “Live and Let Die”, recorded at his Candlestick Park Concert in San Francisco.

The concert is filmed with a special camera allowing viewers with the Cardboard headset to move their head and be able to see every angle of the gig (although they can’t move within it). Also, the sound is recorded in 3D, so moving your head will alter what you hear.

The app is free so it can be regarded as a “proof of concept” and an “interesting experiment”, but if cheap smartphone-based VR headsets start to gain steam more artists may consider recording 360 degrees footage to take advantage of the opportunities a simple piece of cardboard can afford.
