New book on Bjork to boost New York museum retrospective and new album in 2015

Thames & Hudson, the UK publisher of illustrated books on art, design and culture, is reported to be bringing out a book linked to a museum retrospective dedicated to Iceland’s biggest music export Bjork.

According to youth fashion magazine i-D, the paperback book plus a series of booklets dedicated to Bjork’s esoteric but attention-grabbing work in music, film, fashion, visual art and live performances, will be called Bjork: Archives. They are scheduled for release on 30 March 2015.

The publications coincide with Bjork, the name of a retrospective at New York’s MoMA (Museum of Modern Art) from 7 March to 7 June next year.

Dedicated to the artist’s career, the showcase focuses on more than 20 years of Bjork’s works, from the radical first full-length album Debut in 1993 to the creatively disruptive digital-age concepts in Biophilia (pictured) in 2011.

These artistic activities will take place at a time when a follow-up album is also scheduled for next year.

The MoMA installations will include film, music, artworks, costumes, and musical instruments that have been curated by the revered Klaus Biesenbach, MoMA’s director and chief curator-at-large at MoMA PS1, the art institution affiliated to the museum.

The theme running through the installations, both biographical and fictional, has been written by Bjork and collaborator Sjon Sigurdsson, the novelist, poet and lyricist who used to perform with her during the days of The Sugarcubes.

Additionally, specially commissioned music and immersive film directed by Andrew Thomas Huang, the award-winning filmmaker and music-video producer, will premiere at the event.
