Bose reportedly working on a music streaming service

If you think the music streaming market is getting a little crowded… you’re probably right.

Apparently though Bose didn’t get the memo since a job posting first reported by Hypebot shows that the company is hiring a Senior User Experience Designer to “lead design and prototyping of our next generation streaming music platform and ecosystem of products.”

The job posting is, so far, all there is to this story - Bose is looking for someone with experience at one of the established streaming music services.

It does make one wonder though whether the company would really plan on entering the streaming music market as a licensed entity. Reading the job post it is not clear as to whether Bose is looking to build a Spotify competitor or whether it is simply looking for someone who can create a great User Experience for people that are using multiple services.

The latter route would make a lot more sense since Bose’s competitor Sonos is making great strides in bringing together multiple services under its own app. Songs even launched a feature like “universal search” a few months back to help users find music across different services.

Here’s to hoping that Bose decides to take this path since launching yet another music streaming service that claims to be “revolutionary” would be both a tedious and an extremely risky business move, since players like Spotify who have already scaled to a certain extent are still losing money whilst players like Google and Amazon are quite happy with using music as a loss-leader at least for the foreseeable future.
