Blinkbox announces Guvera is to acquire its Music service

Just days after Tesco announced that TalkTalk was to acquire its Blinkbox video-on-demand platform, the company has revealed that the Blinkbox music service has found a buyer as well in Australian music streaming service Guvera.

Guvera started its life in 2008 as a brand-supported music streaming service and has evolved to become a direct competitor of the likes of Spotify and Rdio.

Guvera is not currently available or present in the UK so the acquisition of Blinkbox Music will provide it an base in London and a potential European HQ. Guvera recently launched in India and the service is also available in Australia, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Ukraine, UAE, USA, Venezuela and Vietnam.

Guvera’s COO Michael de Vere stated: “The acquisition of blinkbox Music is an important new chapter in the Guvera story, adding significant firepower to our product – both in terms of technical expertise and an established and loyal audience in the UK.”

As of yet no news in regards to the purchase price or to what will happen to the company’s London-based staff.
