Napster's original sign up for sale in charity auction

Napster’s original and iconic sign is up for sale on Ebay as part of the official 57th Annual Grammy Awards Charity Auction.

The sign has been donated by Red Bull Records, current occupier of the building that previously housed Napster’s headquarters.

Prospective buyers should be aware that the sign is BIG, 8’x12’ (roughly 2.5 x 3.5 meters), so you will need to clear some wall space to hang it up.

Napster’s logo is iconic and widely recognised, so much so that it is still used by the current iteration of Napster, owned by Rhapsody and available in a number of territories worldwide.

Countless pages have been written on the rise and fall of Napster and last year’s Downloaded documentary shed some light on some of the lesser-known aspects of the story.

Napster’s original sign is definitely a piece of Digital Music History, it would be interesting to see who will end up getting hold of it although given that the auction is on Ebay we may never know. It could be a private collector (digital music service CEO?), a company or even a museum. For now though, no one has taken the plunge with a bid so if you are interested you may want to keep an eye on this, it may not go for much more than the base price. The auction ends in three days.
