Revived Different Recordings promises fresh approach to EDM

German house act Claptone, New York/Dublin hip house artist Bon Voyage (pictured) and French “electro-psych-ers” DBFC are the first new signings at Different Recordings, the revived electronic dance music imprint at indie group PIAS.

After a three-year gap, Different Recordings has returned with a new roster of signings for this year, a time when PIAS is seeking to champion the next generation of forward-thinking electronic artists.

This new-found approach is part of PIAS’ continuing ambition to contribute to the ever-evolving EMD sector.

Before this current revival, Different Recordings had nurtured some of the genre’s seminal releases. These include Super Discount, the first release from French DJ/producer Etienne De Crecy, and OK Cowboy, the much acclaimed debut album from Vitalic (real name Pascal Arbez), another French EDM performer.

Canada’s Tiga, and Crystal Castles, plus British electronic folk group Crystal Fighters, and French producer The Hacker are also Different Recordings alumni.

“We are re-launching the Different label, which after three years away is back with a simple remit, to find, develop and release the best new electronic music from around the world,” Kenny Gates, co-founder and CEO of PIAS, says.
