R.I.P. John Renbourn, founding member of folk band Pentangle

John Renbourn, founding member of British folk legends Pentangle, was found dead at his home on Thursday, March 26. His lifeless body was discovered by the Police, after failing to show up for a scheduled concert on Wednesday night. Indeed Renbourn was due to play at the Ferry in Glasgow on March 25, but colleagues became concerned when he failed to turn up.

The artist was touring with Wizz Jones; as reported by Uncut, a member of staff at the Ferry commented:

He didn't show. Nobody knew where he was. Wizz Jones was in the dark about what had happened. He did the show on his own. We tried to contact him. Wizz Jones called his agent this morning. He didn't know what was happening so he called the police local to where he lived. They went round to his house and found that he had died.

Renbourn was 70 and the cause of death is believed to be natural - a heart attack.

Renbourn founded Pentangle in 1968 with Bert Jansch, Jacqui McShee, Terry Cox, and Danny Thompson. The band released several albums and broke-up in 1972. Before and after his time in the band, Renbourn had a prolific solo career as a guitarist and vocalist.
