‘Chosen’ music app unveiled by MOG founder, brings virtual talent contest experience to iOS
David Hyman, the founder of MOG - the streaming music service that was acquired by Beats and has served as the backbone for Beats Music - has unveiled his latest project, an iOS app called Chosen.
Currently in beta stage and invite-only, Chosen claims to be “The first app that gives you the power to turn a performer into a star”, sitting halfway between being a game and a virtual talent contest.
The app, realising that not everyone wants to be a performer but that everyone is up for judging one, places a particular focus on users becoming virtual tastemakers, watching and commenting on the performances of a smaller pool of talent.
The app also enables anyone to record a performance - you need someone to judge after all! - and there are separate leaderboards for the best judges and for the best performers.
The app is currently free for beta users and there is - understandably - no paid tier, which is likely to be unveiled when the app is launched to the wider public.
Hyman has raised $6.5 million in funding for this new venture, showing that investors believe that bringing an X-Factor-style experience to the mobile space could create a viral and scaleable ecosystem.
