Pandora announced that its app will include Apple Watch support from day one, stressing that the company has always been interested in being the first to support new technology, doing so when the iPhone launched in 2007 and when the iPad launched in 2010.

The app will enable users to see which track is currently playing on the “Now Playing” screen - even during a workout - it will allow users to access new music notifications and to control the volume, as well as (obviously) thumbs-up or down tracks.

The Apple Watch does not support truly standalone apps yet, so at launch the interaction between third party apps and the Watch will be dictated by the apps’ iOS version. This means that if you are expecting an Apple Watch on April 24, 2015 you should make sure that before it is delivered or you pick it up you update all the apps on your phone and take a peek at the release notes to see which are now supporting the Watch. The Watch to a certain extent acts more as a remote control for what is happening on your phone than as a standalone device.

Apple has already shown off the Shazam app as well as the standard Music app on the watch during the launch keynote. Other music apps that are currently listed on Apple’s website as supporting the Watch from Day 1 will be Pacemaker DJ and AMPLIFi Remote. Presumably the likes of Spotify, Rdio and Deezer won't be far behind.
