Furious 7 soundtrack becomes a global hit thanks to "See you again"

The soundtrack for “Furious 7”, the latest instalment in the Fast & Furious movie franchise, is proving extremely popular on both sides of the Atlantic.

In the US, the album has moved from n.2 to the top spot of the Billboard 200, a rare feat, shifting 37,000 copies more than in the previous week.

The lead single from the album “See you Again” by Wiz Khalifa is a key element of this success and the track has already de-throned Mark Ronson's “Uptown Funk” from the top of the Billboard Hot 100 - it will almost certainly top the UK Singles Chart by the end of the week.

Spotify also revealed that “See you again” broke two records on the service, that of the most streams in one day - 4.2 million -  and most streams in one week.

The record was previously held by Ellie Goulding for the track “Love me like you do”, itself part of a soundtrack, that of “50 Shades of Grey”.

The video for “See you again” is a tribute to Paul Walker, the late co-star of the movie franchise who died in a car accident in 2013 (below).
