Believe Digital shakes up digital music distribution space with Tunecore acquisition

Independent labels services company and digital distributor Believe Digital has confirmed the acquisition TuneCore, in a move that set to shake up the independent music distribution space. 

TuneCore to date has distributed over half a billion dollars to independent artists and over the past couple of years also put a lot of effort in the development of its music publishing administration arm. 

The acquisition is likely to result in Believe and TuneCore being able to negotiate better deals with digital music stores and streaming services. 

In an open letter to TuneCore artists, CEO Scott Ackerman writes: 

“TuneCore will continue to offer the same music distribution, publishing administration and artist services you have come to rely on. The company will be run by the same folks who have worked with you over the past few years and will continue to deliver the same great value that has kept you in the TuneCore family. What makes this partnership so thrilling for all of us at TuneCore is how it will enable us to expand our offerings for you.

Together, TuneCore and Believe Digital will provide the most powerful solution for independent artists worldwide to reach fans, sell music, increase revenue and advance their career. Artists like yourself will continue to have full control over which products and services you choose to fit your individual needs.”

Believe Digital over the years has built an impressive network of offices worldwide, but had not - thus far - had a presence in the United States. TuneCore, headquartered in New York but with an additional office in Nashville will provide the perfect opportunity for Believe to expand its influence.
