SoundCloud improves iOS app with new discovery and playlisting features

SoundCloud has a discovery problem. There are hundreds of hours of audio uploaded on the service every hour but it is very difficult to find new content unless it has been curated by the SoundCloud team. 

Today the company has taken one step towards fixing the issue, by releasing an iOS update that adds new functionality to playlists, such as the ability to shuffle and edit playlists on the go, as well as the ability to just shuffle the ‘likes’.

The company has also introduced a new “Play Related Tracks” feature, which allows users to find tracks that are similar to the one they have just listened to, thus aiding discovery. 

The feature appears to generate an endless stream of music which could increase the time people engage with the app, using it similarly to Pandora. 

SoundCloud stripped down its iOS app to the bare essentials following last year’s re-design, it is good to see some of the most needed functions making their way back into the app.
