U2 at Madison Square Garden: watch them cover Lou Reed and perform with Paul Simon

Last night (July 30), during U2's penultimate show at the Madison Square Garden (New York) the band were joined by special guest Paul Simon to perform “Mother and Child Reunion”.

Before Bono dropped the tune, he pointed out that Simon was in the crowd, and the audience roared as Simon entered the stage. Watch a fan-footage of the performance here

Bono also gave a shout out to Velvet Underground’s Lou Reed, after announcing that his widow Laurie Anderson was in the crowd. The band performed Reed's "Satellite of Love" as a video of the late icon singing the song appeared onscreen.

U2 wraps up its North American tour Friday (July 31) at Madison Square Garden. The band will next tour Europe in September.
