iHeartRadio reaches 80 million registered users

iHeartRadio has announced surpassing 80 million registered users. The internet radio service, which is part of iHeartMedia’s offering, has grown by 10 million users since the summer of 2015.

The company highlighted that this number does not include those listeners who do not register, which means that the final tally of users is higher (althought the company has not divulged this number).

iHeartRadio has pushed hard on integrations and is now available on more than 80 device platforms. At CES, the company announced the integration on the new AppleTV, and the launch of its service in Canada. Much like its bigger rival Pandora, iHeartRadio faces growth issues: international expansion seems a no-brainer but the royalty rates set by collection societies for internet radio services in Europe - for example - make the operation unfeasible.

The company is also looking further into the future, closing a partnership agreement with Universal Music Group aimed at bringing virtual reality element to a number of its yearly events and festivals.

iHeartRadio’s app has seen over 850 million downloads, it is currently sitting at n.5 in the iTunes’ Store most downloaded apps chart, behind Pandora, Spotify and SoundCloud.
