Midem opens up MidemLab entries for 2016 edition

Midem this week announced opening the call for entries for the 2016 edition of MidemLab, the startup competition that has been showcasing cutting-edge companies in the music tech space since 2008.

Submissions can be sent to the midem.com website here, and applicants need to choose between one of three categories:

  • Music discovery, recommendation and creation services, which encompasses music education
  • Marketing, social engagement and monetisation solutions
  • Hardware/the internet of things, encompassing virtual and augmented reality applications, wearables, and connected devices.

Music Ally and Bluenove will be selecting the 20 finalists of the 2016 edition, who  will get to pitch their idea at Midem in front of a jury and the conference’s audience.

SoundCloud, The Echo Nest, Kickstarter, BandPage, Songkick, and Next Big Sound have all participated in the competition during the past nine years, and gone on to become important parts of the digital music ecosystem either as standalone entities or after being acquired by bigger players.

Jerome Delhaye, Director of the Entertainment Division, Reed MIDEM, stated: “Midemlab is a key component of the Midem offer and we are very excited to launch this 9th edition of our competition. Midemlab is here to put the spotlight on the nuggets that provide the most innovative solutions and services of today for any professional that wants to succeed in the music business”
