R.E.M. sign publishing deal with UMPG

Just a few months after announcing the partnership with indie label Concord for the re-release of their catalogue, R.E.M. have signed a deal with Universal Music Publishing Group to take care of the publishing side of things.

The band’s repertoire includes 15 studio albums, nine of which made it to the Top 5 on the Billboard 500.

The band’s manager Bertis Downs, emphasised the band’s excitement at joining forces with UMPG in order to maximise the legacy career of R.E.M. The band’s manager made it clear to Rockol back in December that the band has broken up for good, so all this activity is geared towards making sure that its catalogue remains alive and kicking and gets in the hands (or in the streaming playlists) of the next generation of music fans.

Jody Gerson, Chairman and CEO of UMPG, stated:

"R.E.M. is one of a small number of benchmark artists who have changed the course of popular music during their renowned career and, over the past 30 years they have been the model for every artist that wants to organically develop their career with the ambition of someday reaching ‘best band in the world’ status.  We are honored that R.E.M. has chosen us to take care of their generation-defining catalog.”
