Jack Lowden is Morrissey in the biopic "Steven"

"Steven" is the title of the movie dedicated to the life of the iconic frontman of the Smiths (and then a solo artist), Morrissey. The screenplay and direction are both handled by Mark Gill (who got an Oscar nomination, in 2014, for the short film "The Voorman Problem").

Filming will begin in mid-April and will take place in Manchester. Orian Williams (which already was producer of "Control", the biopic about Ian Curtis of Joy Division), along with Baldwin will produce.

The role of Morrissey will be played Scottish actor Jack Lowden ("Denial") and the story will focus on childhood and the path that led the singer to embark on a career in music.

Lowden commented on this new commitment, speaking with the "Daily Mail":

He’s a massive icon. [...] He came from a working-class background, and felt out of place there. He did a whole bunch of jobs while he figured out who he was. He wanted to get out and escape into that explosion of music that was in Manchester around that time. It was exhilarating, and everyone was trying to find their place.

Nothing is known yet, instead, about the theatrical release of "Steven"
