Midem announces keynote featuring Daniel Glass, Tim Westergren and Flo Morrissey
Midem has announced a curious combination of speakers who will be taking part in a joint keynote interview during the event’s 2016 edition.
Daniel Glass, Founder and President of the Glassnote Entertainment Group, Tim Westergren, the founder and newly-appointed CEO of Pandora, and British singer-songwriter Flo Morrissey.
The keynote will look at how artists, labels and streaming services can work together to create a model that is profitable for all the parties involved.
The conversation will also touch upon the fragmentation of the music experience and whether there may be ways to make the links between radio, on-demand listening and live music stronger. This is where Westergren is expected to make the most interesting statements, given Pandora’s acquisition of a ticketing company (Ticketfly) and of a music streaming service (Rdio).
Flo Morrissey is a Glassnote Records artist and she will bring her experience in releasing a record with them in 2015 to the table, together with some insights on what it’s like to be a mid-level artist and what her relationship with digital platforms is.
Westergren stated: “The music industry is undergoing a massive transformation, but there’s never been a more exciting time to be an artist. Pandora intends to change the whole notion of what it means to be a working musician, and I’m eager to share what we’re working on with some of the smartest minds in the business at Midem.”
Jerome Delhaye, Reed Midem’s Entertainment Division Director, stated: “Having a discussion on how streaming companies, labels and artists can work together gives a positive message to the international music ecosystem who will be coming to Midem to obtain the full toolkit to succeed in business.”
The keynote sounds intriguing, but in order to create a cohesive conversation to which all three parties can contribute equally it will need a first-class interviewer/moderator.
Midem is a music industry gathering taking place between the 3rd and the 6th of June in Cannes, and in 2016 will be celebrating its 50th edition.
