SoundCloud announces Sony/ATV deal in Europe, “Go” service aims to launch there in 2016

SoundCloud Go, the new subscription service launched by the music streaming company at the end of March in the US, may soon be available on the other side of the pond.

The company has in fact expanded its deal with Sony/ATV to enable it to launch SoundCloud Go in Europe by the end of 2016.

In a statement, the CEO and Chairman of Sony/ATV Martin Bandier said: These deals for the US and Europe create the best opportunity for Sony/ATV and its songwriters to maximize the creative and revenue benefits of SoundCloud’s multi-territory business. We are particularly excited about  the launch of the paid-for subscription service, which will provide the best business framework for our roster and allow Sony/ATV to take advantage of SoundCloud’s significant user base.”

SoundCloud Go has been met positively by the press, but most reviewers have highlighted that the service feels like a ‘work in progress’ and there’s still a lot to do for it to be able to truly compete with Apple Music and Spotify in terms of features.

Meanwhile, no news yet as to how many subscribers SoundCloud Go may have gathered over the first three weeks of its existence. It is certainly very early days, but if things were to go well one would expect the company to issue some figures over the next two to three months.
