Midemlab unveils the 20 finalists of the 2016 startup competition

Midemlab has announced the 20 startups that will be presenting at the startup pitching competition being held at the 2016 edition of Midem in Cannes.

The Midemlab competition is now in its ninth year and has seen some illustrious participants, such as SoundCloud and Songkick, present over the years.

Out of the 20 finalists, 15 come from France, Sweden, Germany, the UK and the US, with each of these five countries having three representatives.

The selection was made from a pool of 150 submissions and was carried out by Atomico, Bluenove and Music Ally.

Finalists will have the chance to present in front of the Midem audience, mingle with the industry in Cannes and will benefit from personalised coaching in preparing their pitch from Abbey Road Red (Abbey Road's technology incubator).

The finalists are listed below. There are three categories and there will be three winners, each of which will get the chance to pitch their business to investment firm Atomico and receive free legal advice from Liebenson Law.

It is undoubtedly getting harder to present wholly innovative ideas revolving around the music industry, but a number of the startups selected, whilst presenting ideas that when reduced to a one-line sentence do not sound entirely original, are attempting to tackle long-standing issues in a different way.

Midem and the Midemlab competition will be taking place between the 3rd and 6th of June 2016.
