Twitter expands Audio Cards program to include 30-second Spotify previews

Twitter’s Audio Cards seemed to have been ‘forgotten’: two years after their release iTunes and SoundCloud were still the only services to make use of them. Now the company has finally added support for Spotify, enabling tracks shared on Twitter from the music streaming service to show up as a much more user-friendly card with a 30-second preview.

The Audio Cards appear as a “bar” underneath the tweet, upon touching the play button, the card expands to take over the phone’s screen playing the clip and showing the full album artwork.

This is a neat new feature that may benefit both companies, however it would also make sense to see a wider integration between the two services so that premium users could add their Spotify login details to their Twitter account and be able to play the full tracks when they are shared on the social network.

Twitter Cards will be able to show up as part of the Moments feature, which may well make music-related stories more interesting and less reliant on YouTube clips.

You may find that not all shares from Spotify will show up with a card today, according to the company it may take up to a week for the rollout of the feature to be complete.
