The tragic death of Butch Trucks, founding member and drummer of Allman Brothers Band (on January 24), has been ruled a suicide. According to Police records - as the "Miami Herald" reports, the 69-year-old drummer shot himself in the head with a pistol in front of his wife of 25 years, Melinda Trucks. The suicide took place inside the couple’s downtown West Palm Beach condo.

A transcript of Melinda Trucks’ call to police makes clear that she was “hysterical” and unable to speak to the dispatcher in full sentences. She did confirm that her “husband just shot himself” in the head, and that he had done so with a pistol. She also confirmed that he was still breathing at the time of the call, though he died shortly thereafter.
