Ed Sheeran joins "Game of Thrones" season 7 as guest star

The "Shape of You" singer-songwriter will be in the next season of HBO's epic fantasy drama "Game Of Thrones" as a guest.

Show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed the season 7 casting news on Sunday, March 12, at a SXSW panel moderated by the show's stars Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner, according to "The Hollywood Reporter".

Benioff explained:

For years, we tried to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it.

The statement was confirmed by an HBO spokeswoman, though no further details about Sheeran's role were given. The HBO hit is set for two more abbreviated seasons.
