19 killed in and 50 injured in explosion at Ariana Grande concert

Ariana Grande’s concert which took place at Manchester Arena on May 22 ended in tragedy after an explosion killed 19 people and wounded around 50 others. The gig around 10:33 p.m. and two loud explosions were heard, sending concertgoers rushing out of the arena in a panic.

British Transport Police reported that the explosion occurred in the arena’s foyer. In a statement, police say they’re treating it as “a terrorist incident” and are working with the UK’s national counter terrorism policing network and UK intelligence partners. NBC reports "Multiple U.S. officials say U.K. authorities suspect Manchester incident was conducted by a suicide bomber." CBS has also reported that the explosions contained nails. 

Hours after the explosion, the artist took to Twitter to write that she was "broken" by the incident:

After the tragedy, campaigning has been suspended in Britain's national election. Prime Minister Theresa May canceled campaign events Tuesday after the blast; she is due to chair a meeting of the government's emergency committee, COBRA, later. Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron canceled a campaign tour to Gibraltar. Britons are due to go to the polls on June 8.
