Medimex Special Edition International Festival and Music Conference, 8-11 June 2017: the line-up
Iggy Pop, Slowdive, Solange, Tricky, Salmo, Jessy Lanza, Gilles Peterson, Jazzanova, Gemitaiz, MadMan & Priestess, Laioung, Nicola Conte, Gianluca Petrella and Raffaele Casarano, Municipale Balcanica, Serena Brancale, Edro & Richard Sinclair, Comagatte & South Cypher Alliance.
These are the guests of the live Medimex 2017 special edition, promoted by Puglia Sounds, addressed both to general audience and music industry professional delegates. A rich program of exceptionally free concerts (except for the Medimex closing concert by Solange at Teatro Petruzzelli) planned on different open-air stages in the heart of the city centre of Bari.The live program will embrace all music genres, from Rock to Jazz passing through Hip Hop, Electronic and Soul, offering exclusive performances and original productions.
On Friday 9 June the main stage will host the concert of Tricky, the pioneer of the Trip Hop wave that overwhelmed the world music scene in the 1990s. The Italian band Edro featuring Richard Sinclair, one of the protagonists of the progressive Canterbury music scene, will open act with an original production. At 10.40pm the Italian premiere of Slowdive, returning to the scene after 22 years to present their new production enthusiastically acclaimed by critics worldwide.
On the second open air stage Nicola Conte, Gianluca Petrella and Raffaele Casarano will present Spiritual Galaxy, an original production by three of the best known and loved Apulian jazz players. To follow, Jessy Lanza, Canadian producer and singer who is topping lists in the western world, will galvanize audience with her electronic sound. At 10:40pm, the rapper Salmo, one the most popular Italian artists, will debut at Medimex his Hellvisback Summer Tour.
The evening will end at the city centre beach Torre Quetta with the dj set by Gilles Peterson the internationally acclaimed English dj and producer. On Saturday 10 June, the main stage will host the exceptional guest Iggy Pop, at Medimex for his only concert in Italy, who will set audience on fire.
The internationally recognised band Municipale Balcanica will present the premiere of their new project "Transilvania Party Hard". The second open air stage will be entirely dedicated to Hip Hop: the 24-year-old rapper Comagatte joined by a collective sound from Red Hat, Panico, Torto, Il Nano, Walino and Ufo, will present the original production Comagatte & South Cypher Alliance, followed by Laioung, rising star of Italian Trap (more than a million and half viewers on Youtube). At 10.30pm the explosive concert of Gemitaiz, MadMan & Priestess will bring together two champions and the promising Apulian young talent of the Italian rap scene The evening will again end at Torre Quetta with the dj set by Jazzanova and Nicola Conte, two not-to-be-missed dj sets by the celebrated German group and the world famous Apulian jazz player. Sunday 11 June Teatro Petruzzelli will host the Medimex closing concert by Solange, the acknowledged queen of the new R&B scene will present in Bari, for her only concert in Italy, A Seat at the Table, that topped the 2016 Pitchfork list of best albums.
Serena Brancale, one of the best Italian female voices, will present the premiere of his new project, "Italian Soul Summit". Many other exciting live Medimex activities will include on 6 and 7 June Bari Suona, two days of concerts spread across the town, on 9 June the Apulian Jazz showcases at the palace Café – addressed to the many Italian and international festivals directors participating in Medimex, the Bgeek 2017 festival, that this year will be held in partnership with Medimex, the final judging of the Rec’and’Play Contest on 10 June at Royal, and finally the Gazzetta Music Contest staged by the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno, on Sunday 11 June in Piazza del Ferrarese.
