Rita Sahatçiu Ora – or, simply, Rita Ora – was born on November 26, 1990 in Pristina (Kosovo); her parents moved to England when she was only 1 and she grew up in London.
Always a great fan of music, she began singing at an early age and in 2007 – when she was 17 – she was featured on Craig David's track titled "Awkward". After a few more cameos and collaborations she started performing in bars and music venues in and around London. In 2009 she auditioned to be the British contestant for the Eurovision Song Contest, but later decided she wasn’t ready and left the competition after a few episodes.
Immediately after, she met her soon-to-be manager Sarah Stennett, who got in touch with Jay Brown of Roc Nation and told him about Ora. Brown invited Ora to New York, where she met with Jay-Z and signed with Roc Nation in December 2009. After two cameos in videos of Jay-Z and Drake she started working to her debut album; it took two years to complete it, with the help of big names such as will.i.am, Ester Dean, Drake, The-Dream and Stargate.
After two opening singles, “Ora” (this is the tile of the album) was released on August 27, 2012 – then Rita embarked on a string of promotional tours.
Rita Ora credited Gwen Stefani and Beyoncé Knowles as her biggest influences and she also has became close friends with Beyoncé. Other musical influences include Rihanna, Aaliyah, India.Arie, Christina Aguilera, Brandy, Monica, Madonna, Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James, Celine Dion, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Vybz Kartel and Sade.
