Blur - The Spotify Radio Show - Programme 2, Link 6

A real touch of class
That's Chemical World from the newly remastered
Modern Life Is Rubbish album
This record marked for Blur both an ideological and image shift
Intended to celebrate their British heritage
In contrast to the popularity of American grunge bands at the time
It also gave us a glimpse of what was to come next in the Blur story
And so, to round up our journey
Through the Modern Life Is Rubbish album
Track 10, Miss America
The shout of "Michael" at the beginning of the track
Is aimed at publisher Mike Smith
The band had been out with Mike for a few drinks at the local pub
To celebrate his move from MCA to EMI Publishing
Graham, it's said, went back to the studio
Before the others to work on this track
Later the band found him playing a chair leg
Which can be heard throughout this song
And he greeted them with this shout
