Black Keys say: "Hipsters can f**k themselves"

It's so good to see a bunch of kids jumping and dancing to songs that seem to come from the Chuck Berry's era in 2012. This isn't a dream, it's all true. For that we have to thank Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, aka The Black Keys.

Rockol was at the band's concert last night (January 30) in Milan. It was a really good one, we assure you. Dan and Patrick were on fire, started with the stomping number "Howlin' for you" and ended gloriously with "I got mine". They played songs from their last and very successful record "El camino", such as the strong single "Lonely boy" and tracks from the past such as "Your touch", "Chop and change" and the charming soul ballad "Ten cent pistol". One hour and half of pure rock'n'roll music entertained the sold out Alcatraz arena in Milan. The Italian crowd seemed so satisfied. You can all the pictures from the gig here.

Yesterday afternoon we met the band's drummer Patrick Carney and we talked about the recent and huge success of the band in Europe, after the US breakthrough with "Brothers". "I think that after all it's just a matter of luck. Everything that's happening around us is so good, but also so bizarre that I don't know how to explain it. I think it's just a freaky accident", Patrick stated.

"When we started recording 'El camino' we decided to write the songs together with Brian (Danger Mouse). We wouldn't do it with anyone else, but by now he's a friend so it was perfect. We discussed a lot about all the recording process: bass, drums and vocal lines. The result was hard to get but also super democratic and satisfying", he added.

Some hipsters may think the band's success might change The Black Keys' attitude, some of the Italian press suggests. "I think hipsters are against everything that becomes popular. In the last years we've been a wet dream for them, now we're probably the enemy. For me, hipsters can go fuck themselves!", he ironically ended up. Last December, Rockol has met the other half of The Black Keys, Dan Auerbach. Here's our video interview.
