The Troggs frontman diagnosed with cancer

He was a hero of the "British invasion" in the mid sixties. Now  Reg Presley, frontman of The Troggs, has announced he's retiring after being diagnosed with lung cancer.

News come from a statement on the group's official website. Presley, 70, said he had been diagnosed with the disease after a gig in Germany in December.

"I am receiving chemotherapy treatment and at the moment not feeling too bad," Presley said. And he added: "However I've had to call time on The Troggs and retire. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the cards and calls and for your love, loyalty and support over the years".

The Troggs became famous with their song "Wild thing", that later inspired the genius of Jimi Hendrix. But during their career they recorded other mighty songs such as "Love is all around", a song covered by R.E.M. in 1991.
