Vevo's launch in continental Europe

Vevo - the music video website founded by Sony and Universal (backed by EMI) - is getting to continental Europe with a launch (to begin with) in France, Spain and Italy.
Until now Vevo has been available to most European users via a YouTube channel, but now the aim is to attract music fans to the vevo.com website.

The launch is bringing about 50,000 more music videos from artists in the three countries. Vevo said local users find it hard to locate videos on the more generalized web channel it also operates in a deal with YouTube.

The continental European launch is a significant step for Vevo, which lacks the backing of just one of the major record companies, Warner Music - tied to a rival service run by MTV-owner Viacom.
