BMG closes purchase of Virgin Music and Famous UK Music

BMG has finally closed the acquisition of the Virgin Music and Famous UK Music songwriting catalogs from Sony/ATV and EMI Music Publishing.
The acquisition is consequence of Sony/ATV-led consortium having to divest some catalogs so that the European Commission would approve its takeover of EMI Music Publishing.

The purchase covers the Virgin UK, Europe and US catalogs as well as Famous's UK interests and includes songs by the likes of Kurt Cobain, including his contribution to Smells Like Teen Spirit, Human League, Culture Club, OMD, Tears For Fears, The Kooks and Terence Trent D'Arby as well as deals and catalogs with more contemporary writers such as Duffy and Mark Ronson.

BMG's deal has now been approved itself by the EC and follows approval earlier this month of its takeover of Mute and Sanctuary,
