'Easy Money?' finance convention launches to help UK music entrepreneurs

A UK networking-and-conference event designed to help indie labels, among other recorded-music industry operators, slash the funding gap that prevents several from taking their business forward creatively and commercially launches in London on 22 October.

Called Easy Money? The Convention, it is organized by industry think tank MusicTank, which is owned and operated by London’s University of Westminster.

The all-day event, which will include workshops, Q&A sessions, presentations and networking opportunities, takes place at London-based Somerset House.

“Independent labels tend to be more under pressure for both finance and for time, since it often falls on the same person who is trying to keep marketing campaigns on track to also look for finance,” observes Keith Harris, MusicTank’s chairman. “Being able to get access to all the necessary information in one place on one day will be a significant benefit to anybody in that position.”

In addition to independent labels and acts, Harris is also expecting the convention to attract other music entrepreneurs, micro businesses plus small and middle-sized enterprises.

Harris adds: “The issue of access to finance impeding small music businesses’ innovation pre-dates the digital revolution; so we are happy to announce this much-needed convention for all those wishing to find out about the array of funding options available.”
