18 November deadline to apply for UK music-export funds

The UK music-industry trade body BPI is reminding all small to medium-sized independent labels seeking to expand overseas that they can apply for financial assistance from the government’s £3 million Music Export Growth Scheme. The deadline is 18 November.

Operated jointly by the UKTI (UK Trade & Investment) and the BPI, the three-year scheme offers grants of between £5,000 and £50,000 each to labels that qualify to help them export and market their artists internationally.

It is aimed at music companies with acts that have achieved some success in the domestic market “but are now looking to break through internationally,” a BPI statement says.

“Many of our smaller labels punch above their weight when it comes to discovering and nurturing great new music, but it can be a real challenge for them to translate UK achievements into international success given the high costs involved,” says BPI CEO Geoff Taylor, explaining the reason for the initiative.
