PIAS, Rough Trade marry to create Benelux distribution giant

One of the biggest independent music distributors in the Benelux launches in January following the merger of PIAS’ business activities and those of Rough Trade Distribution in the region

Called PIAS Rough Trade Distribution BV, the newly created joint venture becomes a subsidiary of the PIAS Group, the international music company headquartered in Brussels.

The new operation will trade from Amsterdam although PIAS Belgium will take care of the sales and distribution within Belgium and Luxembourg.

Among the independent labels whose recordings will be distributed by PIAS Rough Trade Distribution are Ministry of Sound and Mike Batt’s Dramatico, and artists like Katie Melua and dance DJ/producer Armin van Buuren.

“As independents, we aim for consolidation and strong partnerships,” says Kees van Weijen, one of the new firm’s two managers. “We now have the ideal combination of two leading sales-and-distribution parties, which will provide expertise, creativity and commercial drive for our label and retail partners.”

PIAS Group’s managing director Edwin Schroter added: “We can continue to provide independent labels and artists the best and most dedicated marketing, sales and distribution services in a continuously more complex digital and physical market place.”
