Midemlab, the startup competition that has seen the likes of SoundCloud, Songkick and The Echo Nest crowned in previous years and is now a fixture of the music industry event held in Cannes, France, has announced the winners of it 2014 edition.

The Music Discovery, Recommendation and Creation category was won by Nagual Sounds from Germany, the company’s software allows them to transform any kind of data into music. In particular they have made strides using the body as an instrument by implementing a 3D camera as the input.

The Marketing and Social Engagement category was awarded to Starlize by Mobile Motion, an iOS app that allows users to create personalised music videos. Specifically aimed at teenagers, the app features high-profile artists like Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

The Direct-to-consumer Sales and Content Monetisation category was awarded to Weezic, a French company that has devoted its efforts to improving the experience of music makers via its Augmented sheet music standard, allowing for features like automatic page turning and even assessment of the performance.

Finally French entertainment giant Vivendi presented the “Coup de Coeur” prize to Cubic.fm from Turkey. The goal of Cubic.fm is to connect users of Deezer and Spotify into a single “cube” to which they can contribute, the company also uses a recommendation algorithm to generate a radio.
