UK Music Festivals and Events

The UK is the epicentre for some of the best music festivals and events in the world. Hundreds of live events spanning just a day, a week-end or up to a week fill the calendar of music lovers - although a recent spike in events has caused some of them to go under.

Here are a few of the biggest events taking place in the country but don’t forget to check for smaller independent festivals which can sometimes make for a better experience, although you don’t get all the big names afforded by the festivals below.

Glastonbury of course is the grandaddy of all festivals in the UK, with a long an illustrious history and tickets that sell out long before the lineup is announced. If you want to attend, you better plan it 10 months in advance as the ticket registration and purchase procedure is laborious indeed.

T in the Park is the biggest festival in Scotland, taking place in the disused Balado airfield in Kinoss-shire. The festival attracts 85,000 people every day. In 2013 the festival featured the likes of The Killers, Rihanna, Mumford & Sons as well as Alt-J and Of Monsters And Men.

Reading and Leeds are twin festivals, since performers move around from one to the other during the weekend and so end up performing both in the north and the south of England.

The Great Escape in Brighton is dedicated to new and upcoming talent, rather than to established bands, and takes place across a number of small venues spread across the seaside town.
